One thing you will notice right away, if you do look for an Orthodox Church near you, is that there are different ones like Greek, Russian, American, etc. This is a problem mainly in the Americas. If you were in Greece for example, all Orthodox churches would just be Greek because you were in Greece. But in the Americas, things developed differently because it was a new land with many new nationalities arriving. So as the new settlers came, they established churches from their original nations.

What there should be in America is one American Orthodox Church. To this end, several decades ago the OCA or Orthodox Church in America was established. It will take a long time to see how the  Orthodox churches in America eventually organize themselves.  This being said, make no mistake, all the individually organized Orthodox churches – Greek, Russian, OCA, Serbian, etc. are all truly one Church. One may hold the service in Greek and the other in English, but they hold the same services and adhere to the same doctrine. There are always nuances of practice, but this is an introduction to Orthodoxy and we won’t get into them here.
